Developer Spotlight: How "Which Sausage, Mate?" Brought Unity to Retro Handhelds

We love seeing developers push the boundaries of what retro handhelds can achieve. Today, we are shining a spotlight on a massive milestone for the community: the release of "Which Sausage, Mate?" . Launched on March 30, 2026, it is officially the first Unity game ever natively ported to the PortMaster platform .

Welcome to Żopka Created by solo developer Wojciech "Koksny" Górny, the game is described as a Papers Please-style cashier simulator set in a fictional Polish convenience store chain called Żopka . Players step into the shoes of Kazio, an ex-coal miner trying to make a living .

Over a 30-day story campaign, your daily tasks involve scanning groceries, verifying customer IDs, and grilling hot dogs . The game is packed with content, featuring 127 scannable products, 3 minigames, and over 50 unique characters . Every shift forces you to make tough financial decisions—like whether to pay rent, buy food, or save for your mother's surgery—leading to 9 distinct endings .

A Technical Milestone for Handhelds What makes this release truly special for the retro gaming community is the technology behind it. Running a Unity engine game on low-power devices has traditionally been a challenge. However, this port utilizes Box64 for x86 to ARM64 translation and Core4ES for native GPU support, allowing the game to run at 30 FPS on sub-$50 retro handhelds . Best of all, any retro handheld owner can download the game for free directly from PortMaster, with no sideloading required .
